QUESTION: I’m bored at my well-paying, relaxed job. I work for a big company and make around $100k a year, but have almost nothing to do on most days on average. Is it worth quitting simply because I am board or should I stay and find excitement outside work?
I have the same problem. I’m getting paid $120K base in a high tech company and not counting bonuses or things like that. But my current job is VERY boring that it’s literally killing me. To add insult to injury, I don’t even need a paycheck, so why I’m still here? Because I simply couldn’t figure out what to do if I retire now.
To kill time, I’m taking lots of classes on Coursera, to keep up with the latest machine learning AI development and keep me engaged. I’m also actively looking for interesting projects and companies to join. However, I’m planning to retire in 5 years anyway when I’m 57, so there’s really no rush to find the next gig: I can simply coast my may to retirement, I hope.
However, if I’m 30 I’ll definitely change job in a heartbeat. It’s bad for your personal development and mental health. If I have to suffer what I do now when I’m 30, I don’t think I’ll last more than a few months. Start looking as soon as possible before you start losing interest in work and your life.
